I have a pen.
I have a apple.
And so it goes in the song PPAP by Piko-Taro that is sweeping the web. The song, performed by a fictional character of Japanese comedian Kazuhiko Kosaka, has inspired instant media attention and global fandom. There are covers, t-shirts, and thousands of vines and tweets already concerning the seemingly innocuous hook of Piko-Taro’s PPAP.
The song works by taking English words that sound sort of related, namely pen, apple and pineapple, and just stringing them together. Sounds simple and frankly unappealing, but PK performs the chant-like tune with a certain hypnotizing rhythm that’s hard to ignore.
You should really see for yourself…
