Joe Jonas is on the market. The DNCE frontman spoke exclusively with Us Weekly at the launch of the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf’s Nitro Cold Brew, and opened up about his dating habits and what went wrong with the Jonas Brothers.
“I’m dating, but nothing serious. I’m really trying to just focus on myself and the music,” said the “Toothbrush” singer. “Overall, I’m doing me right now and I think that’s important.” Jonas most recently dated Gigi Hadid. They broke up in November 2015 after five months together. The singer’s other famous exes include Taylor Swift, Demi Lovato, Ashley Greene and Camilla Belle.
His older brother, Kevin Jonas, is expecting a second daughter with wife Danielle, but Joe definitely isn’t ready to settle down. He told Us Weekly, “I just watch my brother and the bags under his eyes for the last year — him and his wife — and I’m like, ‘You know what? I don’t think I’m there yet.’ And I gotta find a girl first …”
DNCE just wrapped a three-month stint as the opening act for Selena Gomez’s Revival tour, and Joe is looking forward to the release of the dance-pop group’s debut album. “We’re going to be releasing an album in October,” shared the Camp Rock alum. “The album’s done now. We had about a year to work on it. … Usually you have, like, a few months to crank out an album, and we had this year to evolve as a band and really create something that we’re really proud of.”
Speaking about the Jonas Brothers’ 2013 breakup, Joe told Us Weekly, “It was hard for me as just a person, because it was all I [knew] for so many years.” But he believes it was the best decision for the trio: “It was like second nature, which is also probably why we kind of at one point got lazy or creatively kind of stopped caring as much as we did.”
After years spent touring with his brothers, Joe has come into his own as DNCE’s frontman and has enjoyed having more control. “Nick [Jonas] kind of led the charge for a lot of it. So it’s interesting to have that captain’s hat on and tell people what to do.”
He also said there’s “no competition” between him and the “Chains” singer: “We have our own lanes. Even the audience doesn’t try to put us in this little bracket like we’re competing.”
The “Cake by the Ocean” singer and Nick, 23, still occasionally jam together, and are open to collaborating on something worthwhile in the future. But as of right now, the brothers are all enjoying their creative space.
