Remember when, just days after hosting the Country Music Awards in November, Carrie Underwood took a serious fall and needed surgery to repair her wrist? At the time, I felt like there was more to the story and I was right.

On Monday, the singer told her fan club, by exclusive email, that she’s been dealing with something more. Underwood wrote:
“There is also another part of the story that I haven’t been ready to talk about, since I have still been living it and there has been much uncertainty as to how things will end up. It’s crazy how a freak random accident can change your life. In addition to breaking my wrist, I somehow managed to injure my face as well.”
After revealing that the surgeon told her husband that he put “between 40-50 stitches in” her face, Underwood says that she’s “still healing and not quite looking the same.” Despite this grim situation, she says “grateful that it wasn’t much, much worse.”
The country star is planning to return to the studio soon as her last album was 2015′s Storyteller and she made a point to prepare fans for what they might expect as she begins to make appearances.
“When I am ready to get in front of a camera, I want you all to understand why I might look a bit different,” Underwood wrote. “I’m hoping that, by then, the differences are minimal, but, again, I just don’t know how it’s all going to end up.”
When so much of your life unfolds in front of the public eye, it must be daunting to accept any major changes to your appearance, especially, permanent ones. Hopefully, Underwood will heal as best as she can – inside and out.
