Rethinking the ink? Over the course of their 12-year relationship, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt permanently stamped their love for each other on their bodies.
In 2011, Jolie, 41, revealed a new set of map coordinates on her left arm, right below the tattoos that correspond with the birthplaces of the pair’s six kids (Cambodia for Maddox, 15; Vietnam for Pax, 12; Ethiopia for Zahara, 11; Namibia for Shiloh, 10; and France for twins Vivienne and Knox, 8). She later revealed the new art was the latitude and longitude of Pitt’s birthplace.
“It doesn’t take much investigating to figure that one out,” the By the Sea actress, who has about 17 tattoos, said in an interview with Extra in May 2011. “It’s Shawnee, Oklahoma.”
Pitt, 52, reciprocated the gesture by getting his own ink. Four years later, in 2015, The Big Short actor was spotted showing off new markings on his arm: a cross with the letter A on one side and the initials of their kids on the other.
As Us Weekly previously reported, Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt on Monday, September 19, after two years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences. The high-profile pair, dubbed Brangelina, began dating in 2004 after costarring in Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
One year earlier, in 2003, following her split from then-husband Billy Bob Thornton, Jolie removed the tattoo of his name from her left arm. She later drew over the spot with a dedication to her kids — and Pitt.
"I love them. They're body art," she has said of her tattoos. "I don't think it's abnormal that someone who spends their life in other skins wants to claim their own by marking things on it that matter to them."
